Ohio's Child Care and Development Fund Quality Infant/Toddler Earmark:
FY 2006: The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark is $3,315,965.
The funds are used in the following ways to enhance the Ohio infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may be used to support these activities):
- First Steps, Ohio's Infant Toddler Initiative, which hired 12 Infant Toddler Specialists that are housed at the resource and referral agencies.
- Assessment of Training and Technical Assistance Interventions in 915 infant/toddler environments to see which intervention provided the greatest degree of change.
- Comparison of indicators in the environment rating scales with licensing regulations, with the goal of strengthening licensing regulations pertaining to infants and toddlers.
- Development of infant/toddler early learning guidelines.
- Creation of a new program (by Ohio Education Television stations) called Ready To Learn Early, specifically addressing the needs of family child care providers who care for infants and toddlers and based on PITC (see also Ready to Learn Television Program ).
FY 2004:
The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark was $3,403,359.
The funds were used in the following ways to enhance the Ohio infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may have been used to support these activities):
- First Steps, Ohio's Infant Toddler Initiative, which hired 12 Infant Toddler Specialists that are housed at the resource and referral agencies.
- To create and ensure healthy and safe environments for infants and toddlers through
licensing.
- To work with providers through child care resource and referral agencies in an effort
to widen the availability of infant toddler care in their communities.
- To support counties in utilizing their funds to meet infant/toddler care needs in their
communities.
- To strengthen efforts with Help Me Grow and Early Head Start programs.
- To provide more resources to providers based on PITC.
